Resolution Games, the developer behind Demeo, has unveiled plans for an officially licensed Dungeons and Dragons virtual reality game in partnership with Wizards of the Coast. As a renowned tabletop gaming franchise, Dungeons and Dragons has expanded its influence into various forms of media, from novels to video games, solidifying its status as a cultural phenomenon. With successful spinoffs like Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Baldur's Gate 3, the franchise continues to thrive.

While Resolution Games has not previously ventured into creating an official Dungeons and Dragons game, their familiarity with the genre is evident in the Demeo franchise. Demeo draws inspiration from the beloved role-playing game, incorporating turn-based combat and an Action Point system reminiscent of D&D's mechanics. Emphasizing virtual reality, Demeo has been released for Oculus Quest and PS VR2, providing players with a VR tabletop environment.

Now, Resolution Games is teaming up with Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro to develop the first official Dungeons and Dragons VR game. The collaboration was officially announced, with Resolution CEO Tommy Palm expressing admiration for Dungeons and Dragons as "one of the richest fantasy worlds ever created." Wizards of the Coast's Eugene Evans reciprocated the sentiment, describing Resolution Games as the "ideal partner" to bring Dungeons and Dragons to life in virtual reality.
