Paul Haggis, the Canadian screenwriter and director, has a career that reads like a Hollywood rollercoaster. Once lauded for his gripping stories and filmmaking prowess, his legacy is now clouded by recent controversy.
Haggis spent over two decades honing his craft in television, creating shows like "Due South" and co-creating "Walker, Texas Ranger." These early successes showcased his ability to craft engaging narratives for the small screen.
The early 2000s marked a turning point. Haggis's talent exploded onto the big screen. He penned the script for "Million Dollar Baby" (2004), a Clint Eastwood-directed film that won Best Picture at the Academy Awards. The following year, Haggis not only wrote the script for "Crash" (2005) but also directed the film. "Crash," a complex exploration of race relations in Los Angeles, repeated the success of "Million Dollar Baby," winning Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay for Haggis.
