In a recent tweet from the official Nintendo of America account, it has been announced that April 8 will mark the cessation of online functionality for both the Wii U and 3DS. Nintendo had previously outlined the intended closure of servers for these consoles in October 2023, and this latest update provides fans with a specific date for the conclusion of online services.

As a prominent player in the video game industry, Nintendo has garnered acclaim for its first-party franchises such as Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, establishing itself as a pioneer in handheld gaming. Despite the divergent commercial trajectories of the Wii U and 3DS, the news of the impending end of online services has left fans disheartened. Nintendo has officially scheduled the termination of online services for the Wii U and 3DS on April 8, encompassing online play and communication functionalities. Until March 11, users have the opportunity to merge any unused Nintendo eShop balances with their Nintendo Account, enabling the utilization of remaining points on the Nintendo Switch.

The announcement from Nintendo's customer support emphasizes that the discontinuation aligns with the natural life cycles of these consoles, assuring fans that offline play will still be available.
